FetLife is essential for kink, optional for swinging
FetLife is the definitive social network for the kink and BDSM community. If you're into any flavor of kink, you need an account. The groups are incredibly active, local munches are well-organized, and the educational content (workshop listings, discussion threads) is unmatched. For swinging specifically, though, it's limited. There's no matching or dating functionality — it's purely a social network. We use FetLife for event discovery and community, and actual dating platforms for meeting couples.

The interface is terrible but the community is irreplaceable
Let's get this out of the way: FetLife looks like it was designed by a computer science student in 2009. Because it basically was. The UI is atrocious, search barely works, and there's no app (the mobile site is painful). And yet... 10 million members. Thriving local groups in every city. The most comprehensive event calendar for kink events anywhere. FetLife succeeds despite its interface because the community has nowhere else to go. We check it weekly for local events and munch listings.

Not a dating site, and that's okay
People who rate FetLife poorly as a dating platform are missing the point. It's not a dating site — it's a social network for kink-minded people. And at that, it excels. The writing and discussion quality in many groups is genuinely thoughtful. The consent culture is strong. Local community leaders use it to organize events, workshops, and support groups. Just don't go in expecting to swipe right on couples. That's not what FetLife is for. Use it for community and education, use Swingular or Feeld for dating.
